What is an emergency supply?
In certain circumstances, a pharmacist may be able to provide a limited supply of your regular medicine without a new prescription. Every request is assessed individually and supply cannot be guaranteed.
Eligibility
Who can request this?
- You have run out of regular medication
- You cannot contact your GP, such as out of hours or on a bank holiday
- You can show evidence of a previous prescription
Before you call
What we need from you
- Medicine name and strength
- Dose and how often you take it
- Why the supply is needed urgently
- Evidence of previous prescriptions or your NHS record
- Your NHS number, if available
The pharmacist will make a clinical decision under current professional and regulatory requirements. Some controlled medicines cannot be supplied in an emergency.
